There are free food giveaways in Elmwood Park by "Strangers Helping Strangers": just to lend a hand to families in need. Fruit and vegetables once a week on a disclosed date and time. Dinner distribution is on Fridays @ 5:30pm. Pick up is between the Recreation Center and the Firehouse, enter off the Blvd. and exit by the VFW. Serves persons 60 years and older who are homebound, unable to prepare their meals, have no one to assist with meal preparation during the day and are not a Medicaid recipient of Managed Long Term Support Services (MLTSS). Hot Meal and Frozen Meal plans available. Call for details. Suggested donation of $1.25 per meal. Unable to accommodate special diets.

Meals on Wheels provides more than a meal to our home-bound neighbors 65 and over, nourishing both the body and mind through the delivery of nutritious food and a daily well-visit. We are a 501(c)(3) organization. We deliver two meals every weekday, one hot meal and one cold meal, plus milk, juice, fresh fruit and dessert. Cost is $7.50/day for two meal program and $5.70/day for one meal program. Subsidy assistance may be available and we can accommodate all special dietary requirements and restrictions including mechanically altered diets.
